It is amazing to me that nothing was done to investigate Ryan’s death! The Major Crimes Division should have been involved from the very beginning. Statements from anyone in that home at the time of Ryan’s death should have been taken that very day. Evidence should have been taken as well.
Consistent protocols need to be in place regardless of the personal feelings of officers involved – this was not “just another drug overdose”! Every death should be treated as suspicious until proven otherwise – not the other way around. Ryan deserves so much more and so does his bereaved family!
I totally agree with you Dale. I was under the impression that since Amy’s complaint that the RCMP were going to treat investigations into drug overdoses as suspicious deaths and treat investigations as such. Why was this any different?
After my complaint there was a memo sent out across the province reminding officers of the proper protocol in investigating sudden deaths that may be drug related. I was told this by an RCMP officer last week at the Yarmouth Town Hall Meeting on RX drug abuse. Either these Cole Harbour officers didn’t read the memo , or they chose to ignore it.
